Membership sales skills include identifying leads and developing prospects, educating prospective members on the value of a chamber membership based on their needs and the chamber’s mission and offerings, negotiating and closing sales, and recording and maintaining sales records and information in order to evaluate, measure, and improve member prospecting and recruitment.
And, to fund your chamber’s mission, it is critical to recruit, manage, and motivate a team of quality sales professionals. Membership department leaders are frequently responsible for budget development & oversight, recruitment, territory management, compensation and incentive programs, and sales training.
The following tools can be used by chambers for member prospecting. Many are pay-subscription databases that offer free trials and demos. Be sure to check with your local public library since they may offer free access to business databases.
